This online activity is created to provide the resources that contain valuable information that distinguishes multiple myeloma from other similar diseases of its kind such as Leukemia and Lymphoma.  For each one of these three diseases, links are provided below to allow easy access to valuable information that will distinguish what they are, how they are diagnosed, their treatment options, and the age range of the people they target.

At the completion of the activity, an evaluation in the form of a Practical Exercise is provided and can be accessed through the "online Activity PE" located in the left column of the page.  This PE must be completed to determine how much knowledge you have learned and attained from the activity.

  Multiple Myeloma

Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow with devastating impact on older people but has reached people of younger ages recently.  It strikes people at a median age of 71 years and can lead to fatigue and anemia, painful lesions, calcium abnormalities, kidney problems and infection caused by immune deficiency, and "bad bones" that literally fall apart as the cancer "tells" cells to eat bone.   To begin our comparison, we will visit this site to learn everything we can about MM.  This site will give us a overview of the definition, causes, risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and other pertinent information relevant to MM. Visit here for MM treatment options.

  Lymphoma

Lymphoma, which mostly is made up of white blood cells called T cells or B cells, is a cancer of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system, whose purpose is to fight infections, carries lymph fluid and white blood cells throughout body. Like all cancers, lymphoma happens when the body's cells grow out of control, often causing tumors to grow.  Take a tour here and find out more about the Lymphoma disease.
